  Careless driving is usually prosecuted when a motorist has failed to pay sufficient attention to traffic conditions and ignores the requirement of the Highway Code.
  Careless driving can only be tried at the magistrate court. Disqualification is discretionary but endorsement is obligatory. There is a recommended fine too.
  The offence of speeding carries obligatory endorsement and discretionary disqualification.
   Traffic lights must be obeyed provided, they are working properly. A motorist can be charged with failing to empty with the traffic sign if he crosses when the red light is showy or when the lights are red and amber together. The penalties for non-compliance are obligatory endorsement, discretionary disqualification and a fine.
  A police officer in uniform may require a person who is driving a motor vehicle on a road or other public place to provide specimen of breath, if the officer has reasonable cause: a) to suspect smell of alcohol on him of having alcohol in his body; b) to suspect him of having committed a moving traffic offence.
  The power of arrest arises not only when the motorist gives a positive sample. He can be arrested if he refuses to take the test.
  Where the motorist has been driving or attempting to drive at the material time, whether he is unfit, excess alcohol, or refuses to supply a sample blood and urine, the penalty in every case is up to 6 – 12 months imprisonment or a fine or both.
