ificance in observance of civil rights in American society. The Fifth (the “due process” amendment) provides “no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law”, and no person “shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself”.
  The Sixth Amendment is the “right to counsel” a fundamental right of any attorney at any stage of a criminal prosecution. But mane Americans feel that of all the freedoms proclaimed in the Constitution the most important is the freedom of enterprise.
  Although the Constitution has changed in mane aspects since it was first adopted, its basic principles remain the same how as in 1789:
  The three main branches of government separate and distinct from one another. The powers given to each are delicately balanced by power of the two other. Each branch serves as a check on potential excesses of the others. This system of “checks and balances” protects against too great a concentration of powers in any governmental body.
  Congress has the power to make laws, but President may veto any act. In its turn, Congress can also refuse to provide funds requested by the President. The President has the power to appoint important officials of his administration and all federal judges but they must be approved by the Senate. The courts have the power to determine the constitutionality of all acts of Congress and President and to strike down those, they find unconstitutional.
